We’ve already essentially tied healthcare to being employed by somebody else, and housing is next. I’ve been self-employed or a freelance contractor for most of my adult life and never had a problem renting before. I would just show my bank statements and get approved quickly. Now I’m seeing a disturbing trend in California at least, where landlords and property management companies won’t rent to self-employed people at all, regardless of income, bank statements, or tax forms. They literally require you have a W2 job to even apply. Welcome to the next phase of corporate slavery.
