Vasectomies are definitely easier than tubal ligations, but I do want to dispel the widely perpetuated idea that the latter is high risk or a major surgery. I keep hearing people talking about how they want to get a tubal ligation but are afraid of having a major surgery or being hospitalized for severe days while recovering. It’s a minor, low risk laparoscopic procedure that’s safer and less invasive than an appendix removal. It’s usually done in an outpatient surgical clinic and most women go home immediately afterwards. Many are able to return to work 4 days later. I was able to drive and do some light work the day after mine. If your male partner is willing to get a vasectomy, that’s great. But if you want a tubal ligation and can get one, definitely don’t avoid it just out of fear of the recovery or risks.
