This happened in the days before social media. In 9th grade, my mother convinced me I was too old for trick or treating and planned a party for me instead. I invited over a dozen people, and all of them were too busy to come. Almost all of my friends were in the school marching band, and participation was mandatory for them at football games. There was a game on Halloween, so I gave them the benefit of the doubt when literally nobody showed up. The next day, I found out they all went straight to someone else’s party the secod the game was over. I always hated parties to be honest. At least my mother felt so bad for me, she never pressured me to have another one ever again.
