The main reason I can’t stand working an office job is the 6-7 hours a day that you have to spend trying to look busy after completing your actual work. It hurts so much to hear boomers sneer at us and insist that we’re lazy and just “don’t want to work” when it’s literally the exact opposite. I don’t want to get paid to do nothing and pretend to work.
And I agree that while service and retail jobs are often worse than office jobs, I used to work in manual labor and would gladly go back to working on a farm or insulating attics if I was desperate before selling my soul to a cubicle farm. At least in those jobs, people leave you alone and don’t force you to play stupid social politic headgames, and you get paid for the actual work you do.
