Sometimes people change in ways you could never predict from how things were when you first got together. I’ve personally seen a lot of couples where the chores and emotional labor was divided fairly in the beginning, change drastically as soon as they had their first kid.

Suddenly the husband would do a 180 and refuse to lift a finger around the house or do anything related to taking care of their own child, and become like a second child to their wife. Many of my friends who fell into this pattern are now divorced and full of resentment for each other. I’ve seen this exact thing happen so many times that it was one of the main reasons I decided to never have kids at all. It’s just too risky.
