People choose these jobs because they are often in high demand, or because they provide meaning and fulfillment in life despite the low wages. The higher paying jobs are hard to get, often gatekept behind requirements of masters and doctoral degrees, or only given to people with the right social connections to someone who already works for an organization. And they’re often miserable, paying people to sit at a desk and pretend to look busy for half their waking hours.
