Never trust HR, especially if you are experiencing some kind of illegal discrimination at work. They will often come to the conclusion that the person who is experiencing it is a serious liability that needs to go away.
I know many people who mysteriously found themselves out of a job not long after reporting harassment. In some cases, they found themselves in trouble for something that it almost seemed as if they were set up for, and in others they were let go for “not being a good fit” or some other bullshit that’s almost impossible to legally contest in an at will employment state. I have personally experienced harassment and bullying becoming WORSE after reporting it, almost as if I was being goaded into just quitting.
My suggestion is to skip HR and go straight to getting your own lawyer.
