It would not be surprising if this is an attempt to force women back into the home, and ironic that many women opt out of motherhood all together when forced to make that choice. The Reagan administration tried to do the same thing in the US, reasoning that stripping social support programs for working moms would make more women choose to be stay at home parents. That’s when American birth rates started to drop for the first time. It seems male politicians all over the world just haven’t learned the lesson that women want a meaningful life and are fulfilled by the exact same life choices, intellectual stimulation, and financial independence as men.
