It irks me to no end that even childfree women are penalized in the hiring process, on nothing but the assumption that all women of a certain age will inevitably have babies and blow off their jobs. Volunteering your childfree status can also be tricky. At best, it’s awkward. At worst, the interviewer will roll their eyes and not believe you, or look down on you for “hating kids”. And if you do get a job, you may be subjected to abuse by being forced to take on multiple people’s workloads and denied holidays off, as if being childfree means you don’t have any other family or loved ones.
