I wrote about this phenomenon several months ago. Jobs have steadily become more abusive, and we finally reached a turning point where stagnant wages are no longer enough to keep up with inflation. Why stay at a shitty abusive job when you’re still unable to cover rent and other necessities? If you’re going to be living in a van and hungry even while working full time, you might as well quit the job and at least not have to be even more miserable for 8 hours a day.
