I think this holds true for most social media platforms. 85% is trash, and the rest is people trying to stay connected with real people. People say that Instagram is trash, but I’ve found a ton of political activists and scientists on there promoting meaningful things, and that’s what’s on my feed.

And I agree that most of what Medium promotes is “collapse porn.” I had to block several large writers from my feed, because I was sick of seeing a new “world on fire” content farm piece from each of them every day. I would much rather see writers capable of handling a wide variety of topics.
