I actually do feel bad for this woman, and her situation is extremely common among evangelical women. Even if she truly does know what a monster he is on the inside, and genuinely wants to leave him, she’s trapped. This is a woman who was indoctrinated from an early age to believe that women have no value other than as wives and mothers, and are too stupid to make even the most inconsequential decision without deferring to a man. She has no education, work history, or viable skills, and 7 kids to support, and I wouldn’t be surprised if every single asset she has access to is in her husband’s name. What is she supposed to do, take her kids to a homeless shelter?

This is the true travesty of religion. When you are raised to be helpless and believe you have no value to the world as a human being, it creates a self fulfilling prophecy that traps people in horrible and abusive situations.
