Doctors are too quick to push off label SSRIs on people who don’t actually need them, for things not even remotely related to psychiatric illness. They readily prescribe them for contraindicated situations, like bipolar disorder or in young children. And they ignore or downplay significant side effects that can worsen a person’s mental health, like weight gain or the inability to have sex.

With alternatives like ketamine performing so well in clinical trials, continuing to defend pharmaceuticals so outdated and inferior is absolutely silly. It’s time to move on to things that can actually help people.
