Conservatives have distracted us for too long with the insistence that this is simply an issue of whether a fetus is a person. We should have been focused on whether a person can legally be forced to use their body to keep someone else alive, regardless of whether it is or when it becomes one. There are no other circumstances where you can be forced to keep someone else alive.
You can cause a car accident that leaves another person near death and in desperate need of blood which you are the right type for, and nobody can force you to donate your blood to save that person. In fact, many conservatives are against things like blood and bone marrow donation because they think it’s “unnatural”. Even if a fetus is a person, why is this case any different?
