Note to my readers: I started this project to write about psychedelic science, drug policy reform, and harm reduction. While these are still a priority, and more than ever as I start a career in epidemiology, I can’t ignore other human rights abuses and threats to public health. With this article, I am branching out to occasionally share my thoughts on other topics. Writing can be a great way to channel anger in a productive way and make a positive change in the world. Raised Catholic in a very red state, I had a lifetime of insight into religious conservatives’ near psychotic obsession with abortion. Negative judgement from the same individuals towards my childfree lifestyle has only magnified it. Over 30 years of experiences have made it clear what underlies the tension. And it has nothing to do with babies or murder. It may be unspoken and veiled behind debates about innocent lives, but the end goal is weaponizing and increasing pregnancies, particularly ones that keep women uneducated, unemployed, and dependent on men.
